The Research and Development Cell (RDC) at IIST has formally inaugurated their state-of-the-art “Internet of Things” Lab by the Honourable Director General Shri. Arun S Bhatnagar and Dr.Raghuveer, Principal(I/c), Dean Academics & Research, IIST, 06.8.18.
With this, the RDC formally announced the formation of a Special Interest Group on IoT research, which will work on Smart City Applications. This SIG will build a platform for the students and faculty members to develop innovative solutions that addresses the needs of a Smart City with respect to Healthcare, Energy, Education, Transport, Smart Infrastructure, etc.
Dr. Raghuveer,highlighted the need to adopt innovative IoTbased solutions in the near future to improve the productivity in day-to-day life. He quoted that IoT is the backbone of Smart City; it enables the application developers to reduce the manual intervention in managing the city 24X7 and generate insights into the necessary actions to be taken by the government officials at appropriate time. Specific cases like smart parking, Automatedsurveillance system, Garbage Management, Education, Healthcare, Energy Management & Environment has to be focused upon in the days to come.
